As a kid I always wanted crutches, we had a pair of my dad’s old wooden crutches that my brother and I used to play on as a child. I found out very quickly that crutches were fun to play on but having to use them for real was not all I thought it was cracked up to be. During my senior year of high school during a soccer game I was tripped and ended up fracturing my foot. It was a Saturday Morning and the Orthopedic Doctor’s office was not open so my mom had to take me to the emergency room.
The ER doctor took x-rays and told us that it was likely a fracture but the orthopedist would be able to tell us for sure what happened. The nurse came in the room and gave me crutches to use until I could go to the orthopedist. My mom was able to schedule an appointment with the orthopedist on Monday afternoon. It was not hard to get around my house on crutches, but school on Monday was a whole new challenge. It is safe to say that I no longer want to use crutches again.
